In 1923, Mollie & Sidney Ball opened their first store in Kansas City, Kansas. Although they offered all of the basic necessities even back then, in 1942 Mollie began the tradition of offering something more, something different.

Mollie realized even then the value of a home cooked meal and tried to provide that convenience to her customers.  World War II had broken out, and newly-employed mothers and wives were struggling to find the time to make dinner for their families. Mollie provided take-home meatloaf dinners that soon became famous throughout the neighborhood.
